1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device (computer, tablet or phone) by a website. Cookies let a site remember things — like that you've already accepted a banner — and help us understand how the site is being used so we can improve it.
Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and pixel beacons. We treat these under the same rules as cookies and disclose them below.
2. Categories of cookies we use
Cookies on this site fall into three categories under PECR / ICO guidance:
- Strictly necessary — required for core site functions. No consent needed under PECR.
- Performance / analytics — measure usage patterns so we can improve the site. We use these only with your consent and we choose providers that minimise personal data.
- Functionality — remember settings (e.g. that you've dismissed a banner). Consent-based.
We do not use: advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, social-network embeds with cookies, fingerprinting, or any third-party tracker we don't directly control.
3. Specific cookies and storage items used
Strictly necessary
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|
__Host-next-csrf | Universal Procure (first-party) | Cross-site request forgery protection for form submissions. | Session |
cookieConsent | Universal Procure (first-party) | Remembers your cookie banner choice so we don't ask again on every page. | 12 months |
Performance / analytics (consent required)
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|
_ga | Google Analytics 4 (GA4) | Distinguishes anonymous visitors. IP anonymisation enabled. | 2 years |
_ga_* | Google Analytics 4 | Used by GA4 to persist session state. IP anonymisation enabled. | 2 years |
plausible_ignore | Plausible Analytics | First-party, cookie-free in default mode. Used only if internal team excludes own visits. | Persistent (local storage) |
Functionality (consent required)
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|
whatsappLabelSeen | Universal Procure (first-party) | Remembers that you've seen the WhatsApp helper-label hint so we don't show it again. | 30 days |
4. Third-party content we embed
In a few places we link out (not embed) to third parties:
- LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok — links open in new tabs. No social pixels embedded. No cookies set unless you click through.
- WhatsApp (wa.me) — links open the WhatsApp app or web. WhatsApp's own cookies apply once you arrive there.
- Savor Room / hey.halwai / RedbridgeLife PDF — outbound links, governed by destination's own privacy and cookies practices.
- Google Fonts — font files are served from Google's CDN. Google may receive your IP address. We've evaluated this for risk and consider it acceptable as it loads a font asset only.
- Cloudinary — image hosting. Cloudinary may set its own session cookies for delivery optimisation.
5. Managing cookies
On this site
When you first visit, you'll see a cookie banner letting you accept all, reject non-essential, or manage preferences. You can change your choice at any time by:
- Clicking the cookies link in the footer (re-opens preferences)
- Clearing the
cookieConsent cookie in your browser — the banner will reappear
In your browser
All modern browsers let you delete cookies, block them globally, or block specific categories. Instructions:
Blocking strictly necessary cookies may affect site functionality (e.g. form submissions). Blocking analytics or functionality cookies does not.
6. Do Not Track
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal. There's no industry standard for how sites should respond. We don't rely on tracking cookies, so DNT's effect on this site is limited — but we respect the signal in our analytics layer.
7. Children
This site is not directed at people under 18. We don't place cookies aimed at children. If a child has used this site, parents/guardians can clear cookies via the browser controls above.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookies Policy. The “Last updated” date reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be re-consented on next visit via the cookie banner.
